Hello oa-community,

since most ppl ask "What is it" and "How do i install it" or they just install it wrong ( ) here is a small description what oaUn will be and how you use it.


1.What is oaUnofficial

I think we all love the gameplay of quake3 and we all love the idea of an opensource game. We want a free, goodlooking and competitive( i think so, you are using a clanboard ) shooter. At the moment the oa-community is shrinking (servercount >> playercount) and there is not much development in oa anymore.  Players are gone to quakelive, because it brings more features, looks better and sounds better.
The main goal of this project is to bring new (competitive) features that will never find a way into oa(for example good looking brightskins) and add some high quality content.
Can't repeat it often enough: We don't want a hardcore competitive shooter without textures, we just want to make this game a bit "better" ( different is better ) for competitive gameplay.

2.How to install oaUnofficial

Here I want to introduce an installation guide for the oaUnoffcial mod.

First, I will start with an essential thing: you need the OpenArena 0.85 Patch to get our mod working. If you already have installed it (you can distinguish 0.85 by the blue menu), go directly to Step 2.

Step 1

First, we need to get the 0.85 patch. Download it at Openarena 0.85 patch. Unpack the file, and replace the old files in your OpenArena-Gamefolder with the new ones. You can do this by copy them there, Windows will ask if you want to integrate the new baseoa file and you klick "Ok", and say Windows to replace the other files when it asks. Then you can create a new shorcut of the new openarena.exe on your desktop if you want.

Step 2

Now we are downloading the oaUnofficial mod. Visit http://code.google.com/p/oaunofficial/downloads/list and download the newest revision at the top of the list.
Go to your download ordner.

Step 3

Now you can start Openarena.

Now you started the mod. You can see a "oaUnofficial" in the left down corner. Now you can play Singleplayer or you can play on our first server which is running the mod:
1/Unofficial.

3.I have problems with oaUnofficial

When you have problems starting oaUnofficial or you dont see any changes: please look if you've done something wrong and read this text carefully.
When you cannot solve the problem ask in #oaUnofficial channel in quakenet.

You can keep in touch with the oaUnofficial developers using this board or the #oaUnofficial channel in quakenet(hope to see some of you there).
