Capture The Citadels
« on: August 09, 2010, 01:41:28 AM »
Hello Evils,

To celebrate the recent release of Excessive Plus 2.1, the WASP Clan would like to invite you to Capture The Citadels - a 2 hour CTF FragFest featuring OpenArena's baseoa and Excessive Plus's plusD game styles.

I know Helvas and Creamer have the skills to Capture The Citadels - that is, to conquer both game styles - but if the other weenies, I mean little baby Evils, I mean the other members of Evil think they have what it takes... then it's time to play.

This FragFest is entirely team based and open to anyone regardless of skill level.  With 64 player slots, even those who simply want to observe are welcome to attend.  See you in the arena.

WHEN: Sunday, 22 August 2010.

TIME: 3:00 PM (15:00)  --  New York, USA.

Eastern European Time: 10:00 PM (22:00)

Central European Time: 9:00 PM (21:00)

Western European Time: 8:00 PM (20:00)

Atlantic Standard Time: 4:00 PM (16:00)

Eastern Standard Time: 3:00 PM (15:00)

Central Standard Time: 2:00 PM (14:00)

Mountain Standard Time: 1:00 PM (13:00)

Pacific Standard Time: 12:00 PM (12:00)

Time Conversion Link: http://www.worldtimezone.com

SERVER NAME: FragFest - Capture The Citadels (67.231.251.116:27960).  This New York, USA, based server will be created specifically for the event. That means it won't exist until a few hours prior to the event.  Players from Germany can expect a ping between 95ms and 125ms.

PLAYER SLOTS: 64 Total.  Additional spawn points, health, weapons, ammo, etc.,  will be created via entity files - an E+/CPMA mechanism for modifying or replacing map items without editing the underlying map.

REQUIREMENTS: The Excessive Plus Mod and 9 custom maps or simply the 9 custom maps or Auto Downloads enabled.  Please note that Excessive Plus can be played server-side only, that is, you do not need to download the software.  However, players with the Mod will have additional capabilities and therefore an advantage, and custom maps will probably look ugly because you need a Q3 Texture Replacement File like the one included with Excessive Plus.

Helpful Video Information: (MP4) (XviD)

FragFest Map Rotation:

Capture the  Flag (CTF):
Like Team Death Match but with the added dimension of having to achieve an objective.  Capture the Enemy's Flag and take it back to your base to score a capture.  Earn points for Flag Captures, Assisting in a Flag Capture, Defending your Flag, Returning your Flag, etc.

Return the Flag (RTF):
RTF is more difficult than regular Capture the Flag but it is also a better team game.  The difference is that if your team flag is moved you cannot return it to your base by merely touching it.  You have to take it back, so watch out!

Also, since merely touching your team flag is not enough to return it to your base, be very careful not to inadvertently take it to the enemy base as you attempt to capture their flag.

One Flag Capture the Flag (1FCTF):
In 1FCTF, you have to pick up the Neutral Flag (White Flag) in the middle of the map and try to get to the enemy's base to score a capture.  Don't forget that it's the enemy's base and therefore well protected!

You may stand a better chance of winning if most of your team goes on offense. CTF based game types are the only game types in E+ where you can be the worst shooter but still win matches because in Excessive Plus CTF, speed usually beats accuracy.

Hi!

I'm glad to see another Excessive Plus event. I'm also happy to see invitation for our clan to this event :)

Your previous events were cool. I hope that this one will be as interesting as Murder and Mayhem or the previous one (I forgot its name :'()

I also hope for more players. On MnM event in last games on epic maps (such as that q3 map mix or ass ault) we played with bots, what sucked a bit.

Anyway, can't wait to be there :)

PS. One question: what version of OA is needed to connect with your future server? 0.8.1 or 0.8.5? Or it doesn't matter?

That's an excellent question.  The 9 E+ Servers for me and WaspBeast all run 0.8.1.  IMO, 0.8.5 was released with too many rough edges.  We hope that the extra time being spent on polishing 0.8.6 makes it a stable, compatible and excellent client/server.

As far as playing with 0.8.5 on a 0.8.1 Server, for the most part, it seems to work ok especially if the player has the latest binaries - http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=1933.0

We love playing with members of Evil because you guys have skill and are not afraid or reluctant to play in our FragFests.

Even though I always post the events at the OA Forum and as many OA Clan Forums as I can find, I know that I am missing many of them.  However, because I don't post at a Clan's Forum does not mean they are not welcome.  These events will always be open to players of all skill levels.

Yes, in both Murder and Mayhem (May 2010) and CTF Summer Fun (July 2009) we only had a max of 8 vs 8 players even though the server can support 64 player slots.

Part of the problem is that we need OA Clan members everywhere to help publicize the event and then attend and represent their Clans.  When Clanless players see a Server with lots of ppl they tend to want to see what's going on.

However, that's the other part of the problem.  Even though E+ is both a client side Mod (players can download the software) and a server side Mod (players do not have to download the software) it cannot get around OA's issue regarding Servers using custom maps - http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=3793.0

While the custom maps are always made available as a zipped download link, unfortunately most players wait until the event to get them.  The experienced players know to enable auto-downloads at least until they have all the maps but most Noobs don't understand what the message "Can't load maps/mapname.pk3" means and so you see them trying to connect over and over until they give up.

Tnx for organising this party Waspkiller. Iit was fun again (like the previous fests as well), untill some spamming kids made it impossible to have play there anymore. I regret the fact that we did not participate all the games. Maybe it's an idea to be a little less tolerant to ppl who disturb gameplay by constant and brainless spams/flamewars or however you wish to call it.

Cu nexttime.

First games were great. Overloaded with people, fast, weird (positively weird) and a bit chaotic. But then these stupid bitchfights ruined the whole fun.
Like S.Creamer said, it would be good to be less tolerant for that behavior.

Anyway, was nice as usual. Can't wait for Xmas event.

S.Creamer and helvas, yes I realized that there were some stupid comments made on the server during the FragFest but I tend be be overly tolerant of that stuff unless it gets racial.

I should have managed it better or asked for some volunteers to help referee the event.

We clearly had more ppl this time around and had I known there would have be so many players I would have setup 2 servers each with 32 player slots instead of one with 64 slots and reduced how many could play at once from 32 to 20 per server.

Anyway, the next event will be very different for the Euro players.

While the USA event - Tagged For Xmas! - will be a one or 2 day regular FragFest, the Europe event - Tagged 4 Xmas! - will be completely different.

The European event will be comprised of only Clan members.  The goal is to attract a minimum of sixteen (16) to a maximum of thirty-two (32) teams each comprised of 2 players.  Each Clan can have a maximum of 2 teams. Each team can have an alternate in the event someone has Internet/PC/health issues. No player is allowed to play on 2 teams and if discovered that team automatically forfeits all matches.

The total number of teams will be split into 4 groups.  Each group will compete in a round-robin or double elimination series of wars to determine a group winner.  Each group will play on a different server and these wars must be be played within a 3 week period.

Then the 4 group winners will compete in a round robin series of wars to determine 1st and 2nd place for the web hosting prizes.

All wars will be played using the following:

Excessive Plus 2.1 Mod using the PlusD version 1.3 config

Freeze Tag Game Type

xp_matchmode set to 2

3 minute timelimit per map.

1 minute warmups.

Pure enabled

Multi View demo required

I still need to work on the details but I would really like some respected Clans like Evil and supeR,Bots to help me manage the event with one of more of the following:
Server hosting
Refereeing
Demoing

Offcourse, it's not up to us how you manage your own events. Your tolerance against lesser qualified people will be rewarded at the gates of heaven. All evils will end up in satans hands anyway  ;D
